The 2017 Nissan Rogue Goes to the Dogs—The Rogue Dogue Makes Your Trunk the Ideal Space for Fido

Just in time for the 2017 New York International Auto Show, Nissan and Dennis McCarthy (of the Fast & Furious films) have created a one-off Nissan Rogue that is specially equipped to be the perfect place for family adventures without leaving anyone out—including your pup! The one-off project is aptly named the “Rogue Dogue,” and it has heaps of dog-friendly features to inspire the canine-lover in all of us!

The Rogue Dogue project isn’t meant to be a commercial enterprise, but it is based on an actual survey of 400 dog owners, which showed that 83% feel the safety of their dog is as important as the comfort and safety of their other passengers. In other words, dogs are part of the family, and we want to treat them that way! Respondents also felt that clip-in harnesses and non-spill water dispensers were the most preferable dog-friendly accessories. You can’t get your hands on the Rogue Dogue, but you can choose to outfit your own Nissan Rogue with dog-friendly accessories yourself! Some options include the Cargo Area Protector or the Family Travel Cleanup Kit from the Nissan Accessory e-Store.

While the “Rogue Dogue” isn’t commercially available for drivers to purchase, Dennis McCarthy says, “Everything we built into the Rogue Dogue project is actually very possible to add to a production rogue, though you do compromise the available rear cargo area slightly for the ramp, storage compartments and the food and water dispensers.” —from a 04.11.17 Nissan USA Press Release

"For all of the dog lovers at Nissan, the Rogue Dogue is so much fun – the equivalent, I guess you could say, of riding with your head out the window if you were a dog,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. “Of course, we also take pets’ safety very seriously, which is why the Rogue Dogue includes secure leash fastening attachments in the second row and rear cargo area – along with numerous other features designed to make family travel with dogs more enjoyable for everyone." —from a 04.11.17 Nissan USA Press Release

So, what do you think? Would your vehicle choice be affected by fido-friendly accessories? According to 77% of the folks who participated in the Nissan dog owners survey, pet-friendly features would affect which vehicle they purchased. While we can’t offer you the Rogue Dogue, here at Ron Marhofer Nissan, we can help you find the perfect Nissan car, crossover, SUV, or truck for you and your pooch, and if you’re interested in accessorizing to better suit your four-legged friend’s needs, our friendly sales associates would be glad to help you there, too!
